Musicians getting involved in the murky world of politics can often be a tricky act to pull off.
From the embarrassing Cool Britannia love-in between Tony Blair and Noel Gallagher of the late 90s to the far less embarrassing love-in between Obama and almost every hip hop artist on the planet four years ago, these affiliations often have the ability to make or break both party’s street cred.
So let’s hope several DJs in The States spearheading a campaign for Barack Obama’s re-election doesn’t do too much damage to anyone involved.
The likes of Steve Aoki, DJ Cassidy and DJ Irie have joined a movement, DJ’s For Obama, that not only encourages young voters to understand the issues and take an opinion on them, but to vote for Obama.
According to Cassidy, DJing is about « motivation, celebration and inspiration » and so is the election. Watch DJ’s For Obama’s promotional video below.
